In Chad, tensions persist between the online press and the media regulatory authority, Hama, just days before the legislative elections. On Monday, private media outlets from the written, radio, and online sectors observed a “day without press,” a protest expected to continue on Tuesday.

The media’s actions follow Hama’s controversial decision to ban online outlets from broadcasting audiovisual content, a move the Supreme Court has since invalidated. However, journalists remain defiant, pledging to fight for press freedom and even threatening to boycott the December 27 elections.

Narcisse Laldjim, a Chadian journalist and one of the organizers of the protest, spoke with WADR in N’Djamena, emphasizing the press’s determination to uphold their rights despite challenges.
