The United Nations has raised alarm over the growing impact of Sudan’s civil war on neighboring Chad, where the humanitarian situation is worsening rapidly.
Since 2023, thousands have fled into Chad to escape the conflict, with the UNHCR reporting that over 6,800 new refugees arrived since April alone—many recounting abuse and violence.
Famine has already been recorded in at least five regions, heightening fears of an escalating crisis that could overwhelm the country’s limited resources.
To meet urgent needs, the UN says more than $550 million is required to provide critical aid including shelter, food, and protection for displaced people.
