The Norwegian Refugee Council has released its 2024 index of the world’s most neglected displacement crises, ranking Cameroon at the top globally.
Burkina Faso, which climbed four places this year, continues to grapple with the impact of insecurity—particularly on its education system. The Sahelian country is home to over two million internally displaced persons, a figure that underscores the scale of the crisis.
Other countries featured in the index include Ethiopia, Mozambique, Uganda, and Mali. The report cites dwindling humanitarian funding, limited media coverage, and weak political engagement as key factors contributing to the neglect of these crises.
The Council’s index is widely regarded as a barometer for measuring global attention to underreported humanitarian emergencies.
