Cameroon’s Constitutional Council has dismissed an appeal by opposition leader Maurice Kamto, upholding the rejection of his candidacy for the October presidential election.
The Election Commission, ELECAM, had earlier ruled Kamto’s application invalid, citing multiple nominations as the reason for disqualification.
Kamto, a prominent opposition figure, had challenged the decision, arguing that the move was politically motivated.
With the court’s ruling, Kamto is officially barred from contesting in the upcoming election, narrowing the field of candidates ahead of the October polls.
