Tragedy struck in Benin’s Collines Department on Sunday, August 17, when a passenger bus plunged into the Ouémé River. The bus, operated by a foreign company, was carrying fifty-four people at the time of the accident.
According to Interior Minister Alassane Seidou, only nine survivors have been rescued so far, while one fatality has been confirmed.
Authorities report that forty-four passengers remain unaccounted for, with search and rescue operations still underway.
