The Burkinabè government has confirmed that the body of activist Alain Christophe Traoré, widely known as Alino Faso, will be repatriated on Monday afternoon. His remains are expected to arrive at Ouagadougou International Airport at 2 p.m., where a government delegation will receive them.
According to the government spokesperson, the repatriation is the result of joint efforts between state authorities and Traoré’s family to ensure he is laid to rest with dignity in his homeland.
Alino Faso died on July 24 under unclear circumstances while in detention at the Gendarmerie School in Abidjan, where he had been held since January on accusations of plotting to destabilize Ivorian institutions.
While Ivorian authorities say he committed suicide, the Burkinabè government maintains that it was an assassination and has pledged judicial follow-up into what it describes as a suspicious death.
