In Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso’s Mobile Brigade for Economic Control and Fraud (BMCRF) has launched a major crackdown on illegal price hikes and expired product sales.
The operation involved surprise inspections across the capital, leading to the closure of businesses violating price regulations. Offenses included selling expired food and beverages and overpricing essential items like sugar, soap, and butane gas.
BMCRF’s investigation head, Bernard Belemnegré, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting consumers through strict enforcement, warning that non-compliance will result in shop closures and penalties.
The operation also uncovered wholesalers inflating prices and pressuring retailers, contributing to the rising cost of living. Authorities urge the public to report offenders as efforts to stabilize prices and ensure quality continue.
