Burkina Faso’s government has announced the acquisition of three combat helicopters financed through the Patriotic Support Fund, as part of efforts to strengthen its fight against terrorism.
The fund, established by the executive branch, allows citizens to voluntarily contribute resources to support national security operations. Authorities say the initiative reflects collective national mobilisation in response to persistent security threats.
Since its creation in 2023, the Patriotic Support Fund has reportedly raised about 500 billion CFA francs from citizens.
Officials say the newly acquired helicopters are expected to enhance the country’s operational capacity in confronting armed groups, particularly in conflict-affected areas of the central Sahel.
