A major political crisis is unfolding in Benin after soldiers led by Colonel Pascal Tigri appeared on national television on Sunday, announcing the removal of President Patrice Talon and the establishment of a “military committee for refoundation.”
In their televised statement, the soldiers accused the government of serious governance failures and pointed to worsening security conditions in parts of the country as justification for their action.

Earlier in the day, unverified indications emerged suggesting that President Talon’s private residence in the Guizot neighborhood may have been attacked, though no official confirmation has been issued.

Moments after the soldiers’ announcement, the signal of the national broadcaster ORTB was interrupted, and the station went off air without explanation.
Meanwhile, some reports indicate that the country’s borders could be closed, but authorities have not released any formal statement regarding these claims.

WADR is actively working to verify all developments and will provide updates as more reliable information becomes available.
