At least 63 people, including five soldiers and 58 civilians, have been killed in a Boko Haram attack on Daral-Jamal, a community along the Bama-Banki Road in Nigeria’s Sambisa Forest.

The terrorists struck late Friday, torching over 20 houses, vehicles, food supplies, and other belongings of resettled Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Daral-Jamal, which hosts a military base near the Nigeria-Cameroon border, has long been vulnerable to jihadist assaults.

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum visited the community on Saturday to console grieving families. He condemned the brutal killings and expressed solidarity with the victims’ relatives and community leaders.

Boko Haram has waged a violent insurgency in Nigeria’s northeast since 2009, causing nearly 40,000 deaths and displacing more than two million people. A recent report by Good Governance Africa noted a resurgence of jihadist activity in the first half of 2025.
