Liberian President Joseph Boakai has announced a nationwide program for healing, reconciliation, and unity to honor citizens lost during the country’s turbulent history.
Set for July 5th, the event aims to recognize the victims of Liberia’s brutal civil war, the Ebola crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The program will gather key government officials, traditional and religious leaders, international partners, and civil society actors.
This initiative comes on the heels of symbolic reburial ceremonies held for former presidents Samuel Doe and William Tolbert—leaders who both died during periods of national unrest.
President Boakai’s move has been hailed by many as a vital step in fostering collective remembrance, healing, and forward-looking national unity.
