We now turn to Guinea, which this week marked its 67th Independence Anniversary—a moment of reflection for a nation still navigating a delicate political transition.
On the eve of the celebrations, Transitional President General Mamady Doumbouya delivered a nationally broadcast address, highlighting his administration’s economic reforms, infrastructure investments, and what he called a “new dynamic” for Guinea’s future.
But beyond the anniversary festivities, all eyes are now on December, with the long-awaited election date officially set, a key milestone in the country’s return to constitutional order following the 2021 military takeover.

To help us unpack the significance of this Independence Day speech, the political atmosphere, and the road ahead to elections, we’re joined by Dr. Aliou Barry, WADEMOS Network Co-Chair.
