Benin’s Interior Minister, Alassane Seidou, has dismissed claims of President Patrice Talon’s removal, announcing on national television that a small group of soldiers attempted a mutiny early Sunday but were swiftly contained by security forces.
According to the minister, the soldiers sought to destabilize state institutions, but the Beninese Armed Forces “remained republican and faithful to their oath,” acting decisively to maintain control and prevent the plot from succeeding.
This official rebuttal follows earlier footage showing soldiers led by Colonel Pascal Tigri declaring the president removed and announcing a self-styled “military committee for refoundation.”
Authorities now insist that the situation is fully under control and that President Talon remains in power.
The Interior Minister urged citizens to stay calm and continue their daily activities, assuring the public that order has been restored.
