In Benin, a recent attack on the Wara border post in the northeastern region has renewed fears over the country’s fragile security landscape.

This latest assault follows the September raid on the Kalalé police station, further exposing a troubling trend of coordinated attacks targeting state institutions in the north.

Experts say armed groups are increasingly turning to asymmetrical warfare, using hit-and-run tactics and targeting strategic infrastructure—an approach seen across the Sahel.

Security analyst Loukmane Worou Tcheou warns the growing pattern may signal attempts by these groups to entrench a more permanent presence in northern Benin, a development that could destabilize both the country and its neighbors.
