The election campaign ahead of Benin’s legislative and municipal polls scheduled for January 11, 2026, officially begins this Friday.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, the President of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENA) called on political actors, the media, security forces, and citizens to help ensure a peaceful campaign period.

CENA President Sacca Lafia urged candidates to prioritize the exchange of ideas over tensions, stressing that responsible campaigning is key to strengthening Benin’s democratic process.
