A coalition of opposition parties in Benin is calling on President Patrice Talon to foster national unity.

In a fresh statement, they demand the release of political detainees and the launch of a national dialogue.

The appeal comes as the country prepares to mark its Independence Day on August 1.

The group says genuine reconciliation is key to Benin’s democratic future.
