Benin’s leading opposition party, the Cowry Force for an Emerging Benin (FCBE), has officially nominated its candidate for the 2026 presidential election.
The party will be represented by Paul Hounkpé, its executive secretary and a former minister under ex-president Yayi Boni.
As the third-largest opposition force in the country, the FCBE’s move signals the beginning of what is expected to be a competitive race.
Analysts say the nomination could reshape political alliances as the campaign season approaches.
