In Benin, the Communications Secretary of opposition party Les Démocrates has resigned, dealing a fresh blow to the group.

Guy Mitokpe announced his decision on March 22, 2026, during an extraordinary meeting of the party’s National Council, describing it as “the end of a cycle.”

In a Facebook post, he said the move followed wide consultations with his supporters and signalled a shift toward new political directions while maintaining his core convictions.

A member of the party since 2022, after leaving Restaurer l’Espoir, Mitokpe had aligned with former President Thomas Boni Yayi’s vision, and his departure adds to a string of high-profile exits highlighting internal challenges within the party.
