In Benin, the opposition has spoken out against the nomination of Finance Minister Romuald Wadagni as the presidential candidate of the ruling camp.
The Democrats Party, led by former President Thomas Boni Yayi, is demanding Wadagni’s immediate resignation from government, citing a conflict of interest linked to the issuance of tax clearances for candidates.
The party further accuses the government of orchestrating a plan to sideline it ahead of the April 2026 elections, deepening political tensions in the country.
