The opposition party The Democrats in Benin has reacted strongly to the arrest of one of its senior members, Alassani Tigri.
In a statement released over the weekend, the party condemned what it described as a brutal intervention leading to the arrest of its vice president.
Alassani Tigri was placed under an arrest warrant late last week for his alleged involvement in the attempted coup of December 2025.
The opposition party has raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding the arrest, calling for respect for due process and political freedoms.
