Beninese authorities have detained Chabi Yayi, the son of former President Yayi Boni, amid heightened security measures following last week’s failed military coup attempt.
Chabi Yayi was arrested at his residence in the early hours of Sunday and has since been placed in police custody. Authorities have not officially disclosed the reasons for his arrest.
He is a senior figure within the opposition party Les Démocrates, serving as its National Secretary for External Relations. His detention has drawn attention due to his political role and family ties.
The arrest comes exactly one week after the attempted coup, as Benin continues a post-coup crackdown aimed at consolidating security and preventing further destabilization.
