Benin’s government has clarified the death toll from last week’s terrorist attack in the country’s northern region, confirming that more than 50 people were killed.
The assault targeted soldiers in two towns near the tripoint border with Niger and Burkina Faso—an area increasingly threatened by extremist groups.
Authorities say several wounded soldiers are receiving treatment in hospitals, while security forces are on high alert.
Cotonou has vowed to respond with firm measures to strengthen national security and counter the growing extremist threat.
