President Adama Barrow has officially launched the Madrassah Integration Strategy, marking a major step in education reform in The Gambia. The initiative aims to incorporate Quranic schools, or Madrassahs, into the country’s broader development agenda.

Unveiled on Tuesday, the strategy seeks to ensure that Madrassah graduates have equal opportunities to access higher education and enter the formal job market. It addresses a long-standing gap between secular and Islamic education tracks.

The government says the move reflects a commitment to inclusive development and acknowledges the vital role of faith-based learning in national progress.

Stakeholders from both educational and religious sectors have welcomed the initiative, calling it a step toward greater social equity.
