The African Union Commission Chairperson, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has strongly condemned the terrorist attack by Al-Shabaab on the Godka Jilow Prison in Mogadishu, Somalia, which left several people dead and many others injured.
Calling it a heinous act that threatens regional stability, Youssouf extended condolences to the Somali government and families of the victims while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
He reaffirmed the AU’s unwavering support for Somalia in its counter-terrorism efforts, emphasizing the role of the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission (AUSSOM) in bolstering national security.
Youssouf also called on AU member states and international partners to intensify assistance to Somalia and AUSSOM in their ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab and other extremist groups.
