In this edition of Arts and Culture, we head to Ghana to shine a light on Kpanlogo, a vibrant dance form rooted in the traditions of the Ga ethnic group from the Greater Accra Region in southern Ghana.
Emerging in the early 1960s, Kpanlogo was an innovative creation, drawing inspiration from American rock and roll and offering the younger Ga generation a new cultural identity distinct from their elders.
Though now closely linked with urban youth culture, the signature 3:2 Kpanlogo beat has deep roots in older Ga rhythms, blended with other influences and brought to life on Kpanlogo drums.
Joining us from Accra to guide us through this tradition is Naa Dedei Tettey.
