Analysts warn Latin America could overtake Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire in cocoa production

Experts are warning of a possible overtaking of Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire as leading producers of cocoa in the world.

It comes amidst challenges being faced by the farmers of the cash crop in the two countries. In Ghana, illegal mining popularly known as galamsey and swollen shoot disease are key drivers of the decline in production. 

According to a study conducted four years ago by Ghana’s cocoa marketing board CocoaBod, around 20,000 hectares of land have been lost in Gulanse. They’ve lost all these farms, in-house, through the activity of food and tenants. Here is its public relations officer, Fiifi Boafo
