Amnesty International is calling on the Ghanaian government to immediately close down so-called witch camps in the northern region, where over 500 women remain confined after being accused of witchcraft.
In a new report, the rights group highlights the harsh and inhumane conditions in these camps, noting that many of the women live without access to basic services such as healthcare, clean water, and sanitation.
The report also criticizes the state for its slow response, urging lawmakers to finally pass the long-pending anti-witchcraft bill to protect the rights and dignity of those affected.
Amnesty is demanding urgent government intervention, including proper rehabilitation and reintegration of victims back into society.
