The African Union (AU) has reaffirmed its commitment to mediation efforts in resolving conflicts and security threats across the continent. As the Pan-African body welcomes new leadership, it faces mounting challenges, including terrorism, electoral disputes, and unconstitutional changes of government.
Speaking at a press conference in Addis Ababa, AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, Bankole Adegboyega Adeoye, emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomatic solutions over military interventions. He highlighted ongoing tensions in the Central Sahel and West Africa, assuring that the AU is closely monitoring developments in these regions.
Adeoye underscored the AU’s responsibility in ensuring stability and peace across Africa, noting that regional cooperation is crucial to addressing emerging threats. He called for stronger collaboration between governments, civil society, and international partners.
With multiple crises unfolding, the AU’s renewed focus on mediation signals a proactive approach to maintaining peace and security across the continent.
