In this special edition, our African Hero is someone close to home—our very own colleague and friend, sports anchor Sankulleh Janko—who has just brought home one of the highest honours in West African journalism.

Recently, Sankulleh was recognized by the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, as Best Journalist in Radio, a title awarded for his exceptional storytelling and the powerful human-interest feature that touched hearts, moved minds, and sparked important conversations across the region.

From Banjul to Bamako, the subregion is abuzz with pride and admiration. His achievement is not just a personal milestone, but also a testament to the power of journalism done with empathy, integrity, and purpose. It reminds us that the stories we tell—especially those about ordinary people doing extraordinary things—can transcend borders and inspire change.

Today, we celebrate Sankulleh, not only for the award, but for his dedication to using the microphone as a tool for truth, connection, and hope. This victory belongs to him, to WADR, and to every listener who believes in the power of storytelling to shape a better West Africa.
