Senegal is hosting the Second African Conference on Democracy, currently underway in Dakar. The event, organized by the Foundation for Innovation for Democracy, has drawn hundreds of participants, including policy analysts, governance experts, and civil society leaders.
This year’s theme, “Substantive Democracy, Sovereignty, and Human Security,” urges African governments to broaden their understanding of democracy beyond elections. Discussions are focused on creating dignified living conditions and inclusive governance as pillars of lasting political and social justice.
The forum reflects a growing push across the continent to strengthen democratic institutions and prioritize human-centered development.
