Seventeen African governments have pledged reforms and action plans to expand electricity access under the Mission 300 initiative, according to the World Bank.
The program, led by the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank, aims to connect 300 million people across Africa to reliable power by 2030.
The announcement was made on Friday at the Bloomberg Philanthropies Global Forum in New York, where leaders stressed the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions to support growth and development.
If fully realized, Mission 300 could mark one of the most ambitious electrification drives on the continent, addressing long-standing gaps that limit economic opportunities for millions.
