In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), more than 100 people have lost their lives following a landslide at a coltan mine in the east of the country.

According to information relayed by the national press, the landslide occurred in the Rubaya area of the province of North Kivu, following heavy rainfall.

The majority of the victims were artisanal miners working in coltan. Food vendors and shopkeepers were also among the dead.

The search operations for the missing continue in extremely difficult conditions, with rudimentary means.

Provincial authorities have not yet issued any official statement regarding the tragedy.

On January 30, another collapse in a coltan mine in the territory of Masisi, also in the province of North Kivu, claimed the lives of 226 miners.
