The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has voiced deep concern over worsening hostilities in the Gulf region, warning of threats to global peace, energy markets, and food security, especially for Africa and other vulnerable regions.

The warning comes amid reports from Iranian authorities announcing the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei following the February 28 strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against targets in Iran.
