The Gambia has been ranked among the 10 best-governed countries in Africa and 74th globally in the 2026 World Economic Governance Index.
According to Business Insider Africa, Banjul scored 47.6 out of 100 on the index. Neighbouring Senegal placed 7th in Africa and 63rd globally, earning a higher score of 54.0.
The index assesses countries based on corruption control, rule of law, press freedom, and political rights.
