The United States Embassy in Ghana is cautioning football fans travelling to the U.S. for this year’s World Cup not to overstay their visas.

Speaking at a news conference in Accra, Chargé d’Affaires Rolf Olson stressed that possessing a valid visa and match ticket does not exempt visitors from complying with U.S. immigration laws. He reminded supporters that all countries strictly enforce their entry and stay regulations.

The Embassy emphasised that travellers are expected to respect the duration and conditions of their visas to avoid legal consequences.

Rolf Olson’s remarks come as Ghana’s former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, faces a bond hearing in the United States following his arrest after his visa expired.
