The United Nations is investing 2.5 million dollars in northern Togo through its Peace Fund to strengthen community resilience amid rising insecurity.

The northern region, which borders Burkina Faso in the Sahel, has experienced a gradual infiltration of violent extremism, prompting increased international support.

The nearly two-year initiative is jointly managed by three UN agencies — FAO, IOM and UNDP — with a focus on stabilisation and local development.

According to UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, the project aims to reinforce community structures and address vulnerabilities linked to insecurity in the region.
