The long-running case surrounding the mysterious death of Colonel Toussaint Bitala Madjoulba has resurfaced before a military court in Lomé, reigniting national attention.

The trial resumed on Monday, five years after Colonel Madjoulba was found dead under suspicious circumstances in his office in the Togolese capital.

General Félix Abalo Kadangha, former Chief of Staff of the Togolese Armed Forces, is once again appearing before the court as he seeks to appeal his 20-year prison sentence for complicity in murder.

The reopening of the case marks a significant moment in a matter that has remained one of the most closely watched military trials in Togo in recent years.
