The Gambia has inaugurated a Special Criminal Division of the High Court in Mile Seven, Bakau, aimed at accelerating the trial of criminal cases and reducing the growing backlog in the justice system.
The new division is expected to improve access to timely justice for citizens by fast-tracking prosecutions and ensuring more efficient case management across the country.
The project received support from the British High Commission and was officially unveiled as part of activities marking the opening of the 2026 Legal Year.
Judicial authorities say the initiative represents a major step toward strengthening the rule of law and improving public confidence in the country’s justice system.
