Today, the world marks International Day of Education, observed every January 24 to highlight education as a fundamental human right and a foundation for development, peace, and democracy.
Across West Africa, education remains both a powerful opportunity and a deep challenge. While millions of children are enrolled in school, many are still not learning, others remain out of school entirely, and education systems continue to struggle with underfunding, teacher shortages, insecurity, and inequality.
The day serves as a reminder that access to quality education is not just about classrooms and textbooks, but about building inclusive societies and sustainable futures.
Reflecting on the significance of the day, Darric Dennis, President of the National Association of Liberia School Principals, underscores the urgent need to strengthen education systems and protect the right of every child to learn.
