Burkina Faso has inaugurated two state-of-the-art modular data centers in Ouagadougou, marking a major milestone in the country’s digital transformation agenda. The facilities were officially launched on Friday, January 23, 2026, with a total investment cost of 15 billion FCFA.
The project signals the start of the government’s “zero data outsourcing” initiative, which aims to repatriate all public administration data currently hosted outside the country. Authorities say this move is central to strengthening digital sovereignty, data security, and national control over sensitive public information.
As part of the national digital transition strategy, the data centers are designed to serve as the backbone of state digital infrastructure, supporting government services and long-term digital governance reforms.
Prime Minister Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, who inaugurated the facilities, said the infrastructure would generate massive economies of scale, estimating savings of between 85 and 95 billion FCFA over the next ten years through reduced outsourcing and improved efficiency.
