Police in Ghana’s Savannah Region have arrested 22 Togolese nationals over suspected involvement in illegal mining activities. The suspects were intercepted while reportedly heading to a known mining area to engage in unlawful gold extraction.
In a statement shared on social media, the Ghana Police Service confirmed the operation, describing it as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal mining across the country.
Authorities say the arrests form part of a broader national campaign against illegal mining, which has intensified over the past year.
Since March last year, police operations have led to more than 300 arrests nationwide, including dozens of foreign nationals, alongside the seizure of heavy machinery used in unlawful mining activities.
