In Nigeria, a West African delegation has launched the Regional Partnership for Democracy at the 39th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa. The initiative aims to promote civic education, strengthen democratic institutions, and support transparent, credible elections across the region.
The project, originally launched in November, comes amid growing concerns over declining public trust in governance, rising political instability, insecurity, and corruption.
Foreign Ministers from Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Mauritania, Sudan, and South Africa, along with the AU Commissioner for Peace and Security, attended the forum to discuss strategies for enhancing democratic practices in West Africa.
Officials say the partnership will serve as a platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and regional support to safeguard electoral integrity and civic participation.
