In Mali, a transport workers’ strike that threatened to disrupt a key trade corridor with Senegal lasted just 24 hours after union leaders reached a consensus with the authorities.
Synacor, the national union of drivers and truck operators, had earlier announced a suspension of activities to protest the killing of several drivers and their apprentices. The victims were attacked by terrorists while transporting fuel from Senegal to Bamako, in an incident that shocked the sector.
The union had demanded that the government recover and return the remains of their colleagues to grieving families. Following discussions with officials, Synacor confirmed it would lift the strike, signaling a temporary easing of tensions along the vital Dakar–Bamako trade route.
