In The Gambia, the President has granted a pardon to 56 male inmates, according to the Gambia Prison Service. The release marks a notable human rights development under the President’s constitutional prerogative of mercy.

The inmates were freed from Mile Two State Central Prison as part of government efforts to promote justice and rehabilitation within the correctional system. Authorities say the decision reflects a broader commitment to second chances and reintegration.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Director General of the Prison Service, Ansumana Manneh, urged the released individuals to abide by the law and become responsible contributors to national development.
