The African Conference for the Promotion of Peace has concluded in Nouakchott, Mauritania, after bringing together political leaders, scholars, academics, and opinion shapers from across the continent. The gathering served as a platform to reflect on Africa’s security challenges and propose pathways toward lasting peace.
Participants emphasized the urgent need to restore and uphold values of dialogue, tolerance, and coexistence amid rising tensions and conflicts in parts of the continent. Several initiatives were outlined to strengthen collaboration among African states and institutions in advancing peacebuilding efforts.
The closing ceremony was marked by the presentation of the African Peace Prize to Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, in recognition of his role in regional stabilization efforts.
