In Guinea, authorities have shed light on the gunfire heard Tuesday morning at Conakry Central Prison, linking it to a cell search operation that reportedly escalated tensions inside the facility.
According to the Public Prosecutor, the shots were fired during a systematic search of prison cells after inmate Toumba Diakité allegedly refused to comply with the procedure. Officials say the situation prompted security forces to intervene.
Following the incident, Diakité was transferred to Coyah Civil Prison, about 50 kilometers from the capital, Conakry. His lawyers, however, have condemned the move, describing the transfer as arbitrary and raising concerns over due process.
