In Liberia, debate is intensifying over a recently passed Port Autonomy Bill, as calls grow from the National Port Authority and sections of the public to uphold the President’s veto.
The legislative instrument seeks to regulate and decentralise port operations, but concerns have been raised about the scope of regulatory authority and potential governance gaps in port management.
Although the bill was initially approved by parliament, presidential scrutiny and a subsequent veto have reignited nationwide discussions on accountability and oversight within Liberia’s port sector.
