Colonel Aliou Tine has taken over as the new Force Commander of the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG), pledging commitment to regional security and support for peaceful elections in collaboration with Gambian authorities and armed forces.
He made the pledge during a handover ceremony at the ECOMIG Headquarters in Bakau on Thursday, January 8, 2026, marking the official transfer of command from the outgoing Force Commander, Colonel Ndiagne Diouf.
The ceremony featured the symbolic exchange of the ECOMIG command flag and was attended by senior dignitaries, including the Senegalese High Commissioner to The Gambia, national security officials, senior Gambia Armed Forces officers, contingent commanders, and ECOMIG personnel.
