The Transitional Legislative Assembly in Burkina Faso has adopted a new law on traditional justice aimed at strengthening community-based conflict resolution.

The law mandates the establishment of a traditional mediation body known as “Bu Kaoré” in every town and village across the country.

According to authorities, the initiative seeks to preserve social cohesion while reducing prison overcrowding.

Justice Minister Edasso Rodrigue Bayala says the law outlines the structure and role of the traditional justice mechanism.
