President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate recall of Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, following allegations of voter inducement during the National Democratic Congress primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
According to a statement from the Presidency Communications Office, the decision follows claims of vote-buying involving multiple candidates in the exercise, in which Mr Baba Jamal was a contestant. The President noted that he was the only serving public officer among those accused.
The Presidency stated that the recall aligns with the standards of conduct expected of public officers and the Government’s Code of Conduct for Political Appointees, even as the NDC begins internal investigations into the matter.
The directive takes immediate effect, with the Minister for Foreign Affairs tasked to initiate the necessary administrative and diplomatic procedures.
